The project’s researcher and interaction expert Jari Laru was interviewed by MTV3 on 14.3.2024: https://www.mtvuutiset.fi/artikkeli/nain-ylakoululaiset-jo-kayttavat-chatgpt-ta-tekoaly-halutaan-vahvemmin-osaksi-opetusta/8878964
Developing national learning materials
Primary school teaching materials on AI and how to use it are currently being developed in the Generation AI project funded by the Strategic Research Council (STN).
Jari Laru from the University of Oulu, who has a long experience in teacher training, will be involved in the project as an interaction expert.
– In the future, it will be very important that children and young people are taught AI data literacy and data management skills,” says Laru.
The project also aims to develop technology education in primary schools to take better account of the principles of AI.
– For example, social media applications, Tiktok and others, are based on artificial intelligence. There are different algorithms that profile us, what we are like and [luovat] recommendation systems that present us with content that you still watch this video. Children and young people should be aware of these types of issues,” says Laru.
