Generation AI is a Finnish research project that helps children and young people understand artificial intelligence: its possibilities, risks, and societal impact. The project produces free applications, learning materials, and scientific research.
Where to start
For teachers
Ready-made learning units and free applications straight to the classroom. No programming skills required.

For everyone →Why Generation AI?
The project was launched in response to three interconnected societal challenges.
A weaker sense of safety and control
Datafication and AI systems can undermine people’s sense that they control their own lives and decisions.
Erosion of trust
Algorithmic environments can weaken trust in authorities, science, media, and civil society.
Growing digital inequality
Rapid technological change deepens skills gaps: those with digital agency move forward, others are left behind.

New tools and materials integration site!
New tools and materials integration site is now open! Welcome to explore! Community, feedback and sharing tools will be added to the site later, but even as it is, this update is a major step forward. Materials are no longer on the project website, but together with our unique AI tools designed for educational use, they form a comprehensive whole. The site can be found here: https://www.gen-ai.fi
Generation AI at EDUCA2025 event
Welcome to the EDUCA2026 event to try out our new applications, especially the small language engine. The small language engine is the world's first language model that works in a browser (no separate server needed) and can be trained with your own data. At our booth, you can also take a look at our new website (https://www.gen-ai.fi), which brings together our applications and teaching materials into one complete package! Welcome to booth 6k18 at the convention center!
